To understand people, it's better to understand myself first

Many years ago, I tried to understand myself and my family. And I suffered because I didn't know how to find the way to my own heart to understand my beloved people. I read a lot of books and they didn't help me that much. I fell in love, and when something went wrong I suffered for it so much. I found this book by chance and luckily, it gives me most the answers to questions I didn't realize before.

This book is my best friend and it really helps me a lots. I found out that it was written by a spiritual Monk. The author is the founder of a new method of meditation, the Understanding Meditation. This method has inherited the essence of Vipassana and Mahayana.

Fire indeed

The title is so true. This book starts out with a spark between Laken and Asher, slowly with Paisley's words being the oxygen to ignite the fire. Once it sparks, its gone like a wildfire. Asher was amazing throughout, certainly a playboy, but amazing none the less. Laken was book smart, not necessarily street smart, hence the virginity thing. Their story is one that even though the title is Playing With Fire, it is more slow burn to ignition. Once it gets going, it really, really gets going. Take a chance on this, I am almost certain you won't be sorry.
Blakely, who is Laken's best friend is absolutely amazing. She was perfect in her one liners, her ability to push Laken to know exactly what she needs to get her out of her comfort zone. Everyone needs a Blakely.
Perfect line of the book-
"It would be called something else if it were easy babe, falling requires the beat downs and the pick me ups"
I think that if you like an angsty read with lots of steam then this is right for you.

I received a copy for an honest review, then turned around and bought it because it was that good.

Another fab read from Paisley Walker

Another fab read by Paisley Walker. Playing with Fire tells the story of Laken who after suffering a terrible tragedy is forced to sell the one thing she wants to keep sacred for her one true love, her virginity. Asher is a wealthy business man with a reputation for the ladies who has been trying to get Laken to notice him for the last two years but she seems immune to him or is she?
I loved the secondary characters in this book their bestfriends, Blakely and Hayden and also Asher's pappy he had me in stitches. This book also had me in tears with another heartbreak around the corner could a relationship survive and will the bonds of friendship be lost forever. Overall a great 5 star read and I'm looking forward to see what Paisley gives us next.

Laken Thompson wants to finish college and get her degree. She has no time for relationships and is only looking for her Prince Charming.

Asher Braxton is a man used to getting what he wants, but is baffled and intrigued when Laken doesn’t want him.

After two years of Asher going after Laken, he finally gets her, but at what cost?

Playing with Fire was a good read. It grabs your attention and made you want to read more. I had trouble liking Laken though. To me she needed a really bad attitude adjustment. There is a difference between putting out there that you’re not interested and being a bitch about it.

And the ending OMG, everybody laid blame where it should not have been, and when you jump in front of a moving bullet, you should not blame the person you jump in front of said bullet for. They didn’t ask you to do it. I may sound like an ass for saying that, but at the same time its true.

Now to the good parts, the chemistry between Asher and Laken was awesome and I was a little sad it took them so long to be together. The friendship between Laken and Blakely have a great friendship. The characters are likeable, even Laken (when she isn’t arguing with Asher).

About the Author
William Holmes McGuffey (1800-1873) was a "born" educator. Beginning by teaching his younger brothers and sisters, William McGuffey accepted his first teaching position at 13 in a one-room school with 48 students. After graduating from Washington College and being ordained as a Presbyterian minister, he taught moral philosophy at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for almost ten years. It was during this period that McGuffey wrote and compiled the Readers that made him famous. Later McGuffey rose to the rank of university president, serving Cincinnati College and Ohio University. He spent the final third of his life teaching moral philosophy at the University of Virginia.

Fascinating to view the contents of text books used in the 1800's. There are a lot of farm animals used as illustrations. I placed it in the school house in our local pioneer museum for others to also enjoy.

I LOVE the original McGuffey's Primer

I LOVE the original McGuffey's Primer. This book, however, should not be allowed to use the name McGuffey's. It may use some of the same vocabulary but that is where the similarities end. It lacks the quality that made McGuffey's so fabulous. The words are introduced with corresponding pictures (translation: sight words) and not grouped according to their phonetic spellings. The whole appeal of 19th century readers is that they use tried and true, genuine synthesis phonics (building a word from its sounds rather than analyzing the sounds after learning the word by sight). Regardless of what anyone says, English is an alphabetic language and it only makes sense to teach children to read the language using phonics. This book does NOT do that. Also, the high-quality illustrations lauded by this edition's publishers look to me like blurry clip art. None of this review is intended maliciously. It is a very inexpensive book, came with free shipping, and arrived very quickly. I just think the description of this item is very deceptive as it is not similar to actual McGuffey's readers in any way that counts.

About the Author
Hugh Whitemore began his career in British television, writing many original plays and dramatizations. He has also written for American TV, including a four-hour film about the Alger Hiss case, Concealed Enemies, which won an Emmy Award for the best mini-series. His most recent work, The Gathering Storm, won the 2002 Emmy Award for outstanding writing, two Golden Globes, and the Writers Guild of American Award.

The ordinariness of a London suburb during the Cold War is shattered when a husband and wife are asked to shelter police investigators who are monitoring the double lives of a nearby couple who have befriended them and their adolescent daughter. The co-opted couple and the developing drama are chillingly and ominously portrayed through excellent performances by Rosalind Ayres, Martin Jarvis, and Julian Sands. The skillfully written plot lodges itself in the consciousness of the listener, creating the terrible pull between a treasured friendship and the possibility the couple are traitors to the United Kingdom. Introductory music with subtly dark overtones deepens the strained atmosphere, demanding that the listener pay close attention as the plot unfolds. The Tragic Effects of Deceit

Hugh Whitemore's 1983 play PACK OF LIES is a sensitive study in how repeated lying can undermine even the closest of friendships. Whitemore dramatizes the true story of Bill and Ruth Search, who in 1960 began to allow their home in Ruislip, England to be the location from which members of MI5 (the British intelligence agency similar to the United States' FBI) monitored the home of the Searches' good friends, Morris and Lona Cohen, whom MI5 suspected of passing on secrets to the Soviet Union. In PACK OF LIES, the Searches become the Jacksons and the Cohens the Krogers (their alias in real life, as well). A pivotal figure in the play is Mr. Stewart, the MI5 "civil servant" who visits the Jacksons and persuades them to shelter two police girls, Thelma and Sally, in their home so that they may watch the homes of their neighbors - the Krogers' house in particular. From this point the MI5 agents increasingly invade the Jackson household; meanwhile, the ordeal of cooperating with them while lying to the Krogers begins to take an emotional and physical toll on the sensitive Barbara Jackson (Ruth Search).

On beginning PACK OF LIES for the first time, one might think it simply mundane, "kitchen-sink" realism. But, starting with the introduction of Mr. Stewart, one is increasingly drawn into the mystery of who the Krogers really are and begins to ask questions such as the following: Whose power is greater, the individual's or the state's? Can an individual be "a criminal" but still have admirable qualities? How does guilt affect a person? Finally, one sees that the purpose of the play's initial scenes is to establish the close friendship between Barbara Jackson and Helen Kroger - a friendship that is ultimately destroyed by lies. I recently saw a superb local production of PACK OF LIES and am glad to have discovered this great play.
