I'm not so certain that a cookbook can be called "Ultimate" if the recipes revolve around common preparations for bacon -- pizza, sandwiches, omelettes and candied bacon. But I love bacon so what's not to like!

I don’t eat bacon, so why did I buy this book? Well, I’m the only one in the family on a special diet. MY partner and my children are bacon lovers, and I don’t want to deprive them of one of their comfort food just because I don’t eat it. I’ve regularly prepared bacon sandwich for them but, when I started preparing the other recipes in this book such as apple bacon muffins, bacon-pumpkin creamy soup, bacon and mushroom kebabs and more, I have really earned their respect.

I have a career in telecommunications As a tech. I installed the first DSL access systems. As a "Detailed Engineer" I provided the instructions for the installation of many competative access systems for service in California. As a Business Development manager I have been involved in the promotion of communications access devices. In my various roles I have researched various communication technologies more specifically access communication.
Although this is not a technicaol document, I find this book to be a valuable reference in my continued research. That is to say that the insight into the modern day computer through a personal account of its development is invaluable.
This book would be benificial to anyone interested in understading computers and their history. This book is not a self serving biography for a man, but is the "pre-history" of the computer through the eyes of an Engineer who was there. I can't express into words the profound impact this book has had on me personally.
Let me finish by stating that the inventors of the first computer, Dr. J. Presper and Dr. John Mauchly, have also read and endorsed this book.

About the Author

Gérard ‘Jabby' Crombac was a close friend of Colin Chapman throughout his life, having bought one of the earliest Lotus Mark VI sports cars in 1953. In 1954 he founded the Paris-based magazine Sport Auto and eventually sold it in the late 1970s, having been its editor throughout. He remained an active Formula 1 journalist until 2003 and died in 2005.

Colin Chapman, this book is a great read

Excellent account of the life of Colin Chapman and the Chapman days of Lotus. I couldn't put this book down once I started treading it. Highly recommended for all Lotus fans. I recently personally visited many of the locations mentioned in the book, very nostalgic.

I first read this book ten years ago. Buying it now I intend to enjoy it all over again. If you are at all interested in cars and have ever lifted a wrench in an attempt to wreak your own improvements, then you will appreciate this life story. The forword by Enzo Ferrari is the only reccomendation that you need.

This is the way to write (and read) history. Morris gives us silly, sad and wonderful tales of real people whose characters enliven the shadow of Britain as cast across the world stage, lengthening as year succeeds to year.

This is the first of three volumes that cover the reign of Queen Victoria. We are treated to all of the stories of Empire, as the soldiers and sailors of the Queen spread out across the globe to forge a truly global sphere of influence.

History need not be dull, and Morris is proof. This and the other volumes in the trilogy are outstandingly fascinating. We are anywhere that the Sun Never Sets, among some of the most creative and eccentric people imaginable.

The entire trilogy is well worth your time and attention.

Best condensed narrative of the British Empire under Victoria

I thoroughly enjoyed Jan Morris' survey of the 19th century British Empire. Having studied this topic from numerous other sources and perspectives, I still found this to be a refreshing account, and one that tied numerous facets into a cohesive whole. While some might regard Morris as writing with too much of a pro-British bias, I did not find the lack of politically-correct 'empire-bashing' to be problematic. Indeed, Morris emphasizes the negative (and the ludicrous) right alongside the positive. Fascinating!

I gave this 6 CD set a 5 star rating for its easy-flowing, fact-packed and totally informative content. I was never bored for an instant, though I was disappointed that it ended when it did, before the end of the century, but I knew that this was one of a trilogy. The writer, and reader, brings to life the many colourful and quite incredible personalities that appeared to abound in those days. There was also no bias towards imperialism, and indeed, at times, clearly made the case against it, such as his portrayal of Gladstone and his opinion. A great work for anyone interested in history of this period.

Essential Reading

Adler, like Jung, studied under Freud and reluctantly broke with him as Freud became, you guessed it, neurotic about his world view. Like the writings of Jung, this book provides page after page or insights and revelations. However, Adler's theories lack the drama and big picture (Star Wars) of Carl Jung's collective unconsious, so he does not have the cult following that Jung developed. This book is practical - full of "ah-ha" moments. It is easy to apply to others but the real revelations are in applying it to oneself. After all, most of us are neurotic to varying degrees. I enjoyed this book over summaries and shortened formats because it is going right to the source. I would note that Adler places homosexuality as a neurosis - obviously this is not the mainstream view today by psychiatric professionals. But if you can just put that in its place as of his times without letting it distract from his main thesis (that the origin of neurosis is a need to reclaim lost power) then his unwrapping of the argument should give a few hours of great pleasure to you.

This is an inexplicably overlooked classic. Published during the years that also saw the publication of Freud's Introductory Lectures, Jung's Symbols of Transformation and Husserl's Phenomenology, it ranks with and, indeed, may surpass them in its nuanced and comprehensive grasp of human nature. Adler's psychology, as represented in this masterpiece is so rich and subtle that it deserves the sort of ressourcement scholarship or 'return to Adler' that has so enriched other contemporary schools of thought. Adler himself turned to the past; he revered the 'canon', the great literary and philosophical works of the Western tradition. -- see, for example his essay on Dostoevski or his regular refernces and allusions to Nietzsche. Alexander Neuer, one of his most astute interpreters, said that Adler had created a modern psychology of what the Greeks called thymos. The novelist Manes Sperber said that Adler showed us both the "incredible insignificance" of and "incomparable grandeur of humanity." The truth of Sperber's judgment shines through in this irreplaceable book. Highly recommended.

Haunting

My interest in the band "Garbage" led me to this book - its title was used by them to create a chillingly magnificent song on their second CD. I found the book itself to be one of the most creative and compelling works I read this year. The story it tells gets under your skin to such a point that I don't recommend it for those already depressed. For the rest of us, it is a chilling look inside a sympathetic character, a young woman dancing around the border between sanity and madness. She knows she is on the verge of losing it all, and knows she is not getting the kind of help she needs from anyone - least of all the mediocre medical personnel who see her as just one more casefile. Yet she's unable to shake the helplessness and displays the lack of will to take control of her own life which is so often found in the insane and/or suicidal. Galloway makes extremely skilled use of innovative page layouts and even unexpected graphics to really show us her character's imbalanced view of the world. We see through her eyes.

Painful, but So Beautiful

This novel is painful to read because Janice Galloway's descriptions of Joy Stone's feelings and experiences are so accurate. We've all felt the way Joy feels at some time or another. The accuracy is so startling that at times it's tempting to forget that this is fiction, and not a non-fiction depression narrative, like "The Beast" or "Girl, Interrupted." Perhaps this is why Galloway added the subtitle, "A Novel." This novel is truly inspiring; it's refreshing to read a novel about depression which maintains a sense of humor. Galloway uses a number of unusual narrative techniques, including spontaneously breaking into dialogues when she's on the phone or talking to doctors, and putting comments in the margins to represent the thoughts that we all have, but don't always acknowledge, even to ourselves. This is a novel I'm sure I'll go back to again and again, because even though the subject matter is depressing and painful, this novel is so beautifully written and the ending is uplifting. This novel will be with me for quite some time.

This book, in non-linear fashion is the story of one woman and how she holds (and does not hold) together. Galloway, as I realise from having previously read two volumes of her later published autobiography This is Not About Me and All Made Up, has distilled some of her own life into this imaginative fiction.

The prizes and awards this first novel garnered are deserved and unsurprising. And, most searingly, the MIND/Allan Lane award. Aspects of mental health care are scorchingly shown.

Be warned, this book will have you laughing at the black humour of our protagonist at the very moment that the fierceness of her pain feels like a knife in the gut
