“Tell me, Victoria. Why did you leave if it wasn’t for the money?” His voice was a whisper across her face. She could almost smell the anger pulsing from him, along with all the other familiar scents of the man she’d always loved. He was just as intoxicating now, just as impossible to resist.
She lifted her face to his to look into eyes that had turned a deep steel grey. She could lose herself in those eyes. It was her last coherent thought as his mouth moved towards hers inch-by-inch, brushing across her lips, and coaxing them to open for him. When she didn’t resist Jamie moved one arm to the back of her neck, holding her in place while his other arm moved to her back, pressing her to him. Her arms slid up and around his neck, pulling his head down to hers. His mouth moved to her eyes, traveled across her checks and down her neck, before settling again on her parted lips.
Jamie was amazed at how the taste and feel of Victoria in his arms hadn’t changed. She was still the most desirable woman he’d ever known. No matter what else had transpired, his body still craved hers as it had none other.

Shirleen Davies writes romance--historical, contemporary, and romantic suspense. She grew up in Southern California, attended Oregon State University, and has degrees from San Diego State University and the University of Maryland. During the day she provides consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses. But her real passion is writing emotionally charged stories of flawed people who find redemption through love and acceptance. She now lives with her husband in a beautiful town in northern Arizona.

Better than the first book!

Same great characters from the first book but with a few new ones added for spice! This book had a lot of action right from the start. Cowboys, guns, good guys, bad guys, just a plethora of goodies and activity to keep a reader from putting down the book! Maybe one or two editing errors...always a bonus with me. A few times too many, rehashing information from the first book I will most certainly recommend this series to friends and family, and although I think the second book is better, reading the first introduces you to everyone at earlier ages. WARNING Sexual assaults. Killing and violence. Some graphic consensual sex.

I got hooked on this author after reading "Tougher Than The Rest". I was anxious to be able to get some free time to start on this book because I was very impressed with the other. I must admit, at first I was a bit wary because some authors that I have came across seem to 'lose steam' and fail to make books as good as the previous ones; thankfully, this definitely isn't the case at all with Shirleen Davis. Faster Than The Rest retains all the great qualities that I loved about Shirleen's other book plus with some great twists and turns added that added an element of freshness to the story that kept me just as captivated as the last.
The writing is flawless, with a smooth tone that expresses character's clever dialogue and interactions with each other and vividly describes the world and the environment that they reside in. Yet again, the author has gone above and beyond my expectations and left me wanting more and more. I highly recommend starting with 'Tougher Than The Rest' and then moving on to this, you won't be disappointed.

Couldn't put my kindle down!

This book was just as fabulous as the one before it. I really liked Victoria - a woman victimized but never allowed that to dampen her spirit. She was just the right balance strength, stubbornness, compassion and pride. Jaime, too, was a very likable character. He'd been hurt, and at first I wanted to hit him over the head, repeatedly, with a pillow for being so stubbornly male with the wounded pride bit he had going on, but he was an honest person, committed to the truth, whose compassion also rose to the challenge exactly when it was needed the most. He was a good guy to his core. This book was a page turner, beginning to end. I read it in one sitting without breathing. Couldn't recommend it strongly enough.
