Daily dozen

The author of this book is one of my heroes from my youth. Bob Hoffman and the York Barbell Company were the main reason I began lifting back in the '60's before athletes were allowed to lift weights. While the book has no new truths, I have enjoyed the view of Mr. Hoffman takes in his belief of exercise. Anyone interested in fitness, health, and vitality would benefit from making the "Daily Dozen" a daily habit.

Good Conditioning Program

Although written in 1958, the information is surprisingly current, probably because it relies on very basic principles. The recommended "daily dozen" is half bodyweight exercises, followed by six basic barbell movements. The author recommends performing the barbell exercises as what he labels compound movements of three exercises each. The barbell exercises are basic enough to be readily adaptable to the use of dumbells or kettlebells. I have followed Hoffman's program for almost a month, and found it to be very beneficial for overall conditioning, which is its stated purpose.

Good simple old-school workout, but no illustrations

Mr. Hoffman summarizes in plain language a practical workout, including stretches and barbell weights, that can be done fairly quickly each day. Much of his commentary about society being unhealthy as a result of modern conveniences, holds true today even more than it did when he wrote this (in the 1950's?).
My only complaint is that the Kindle book does not include the illustrations that the author refers to. However, he is very descriptive in explaining how to perform the exercises, so I'm only deducting 1 star as a result.
